Published methodology

Simple enough to audit.

  1. 1. Complete observations only

A point requires one validated after-market batch containing a positive price for every one of the seven tracked equities. Incomplete batches are excluded.

  2. 2. Base value of 1,000

The first complete after-market batch is assigned 1,000. Each company begins with the same one-seventh weight.

  3. 3. Equal-weight price returns

The index is the chained average of the seven price relatives. A small company and a large company therefore have the same starting influence. Dividends are not included.

  4. 4. Quarterly rebalancing

At the first complete observation of a new calendar quarter, the existing index value is preserved and all seven companies reset to equal weights.

  5. 5. One point per observed date

If several valid after-market checks occur on one Addis Ababa date, only the latest appears in the public index. Earlier checks remain in the audit history.
